Both short and long-term disability cover pay you up to 60% of your paycheck paid directly to you if you are disabled and unable to work. The most important difference is that short-term covers the first 6 months of a disability and long-term disability picks up after the first 6 months and lasts until you are able to return to work or reach your normal retirement age.

Short-Term Disability

Protects you if you cannot work due to sickness, injury, or a pregnancy for up to 6 months by replacing 60% of your paycheck. This benefit has no pre-existing condition exclusions

Sometimes referred to as income replacement, it pays you benefits to replace a portion of the income you lose if you’re unable to work due to a prolonged illness or injury.
